Rumors from the AFC East

Over the last 24 hours, there have been some very interesting rumors starting to spread about the potential additions and subtractions of several key players, mostly regarding the AFC East. The futures of Randy Moss, Donte' Stallworth, Travis Henry and Tatum Bell will have significant impact on the Bills.

Moss to Patriots Soon?
In the ultimate "I thought the Patriots were a team of character" paradox, the Boston Herald is reporting that the Patriots may be in the market for disgruntled Raiders wideout Randy Moss (above, right). The Patriots, who are very thin at wide receiver, are also said to be talking to Eagles free agent Donte' Stallworth.

The Patriots are being weird this off-season. Known for its low-budget, high-impact free agent signings, the Pats have been anything but subtle this off-season. Sure, Sammy Morris and Kyle Brady are typical signings of theirs, but Adalius Thomas ($35 million) and Wes Welker ($38 million to an RFA) were a bit eccentric for Bill Belichick.

Now, the Moss and Stallworth talks have started. The Patriots were interested in Stallworth last off-season, so that move wouldn't be surprising. But Belichick has always been a team to build around character. When was the last time Randy Moss was thought of as a high-character guy? I can't remember one either.

Either way you cut it, seeing Moss as the #1 target for Tom Brady would be terrifying - especially since we just lost Nate Clements. Be afraid, Bills fans.

Henry, Bell Hot RB Commodities
It looks like the potential trade of Willis McGahee will have to wait for two other running backs who are receiving heavy attention around the league. Travis Henry has already talked to Denver, is now visiting Oakland and will likely get a call from Green Bay as well as they look to replace Ahman Green. Henry is the top free agent runner available, so there will likely be a team that overpays for him soon. My money is still on Denver, even though he already left there without a deal.

Meanwhile, Detroit continues to shop Tatum Bell (left), who they required from Denver in a trade last week. The two teams rumored to be interested in Bell are Green Bay and the New York Giants. The Giants case is far more interesting as they are one of the teams said to have interest in McGahee.

It is clear that the Giants, who already have Brandon Jacobs, are looking for a quicker back with blazing speed to complement Jacobs' power. Bell provides them that; McGahee does not.

Baltimore, the New York Jets, Oakland, and Tennessee are also in the mix for a running back. Any of those teams could show interest in McGahee as well. Stay tuned - if nothing happens with Willis quickly, it's likely he'll remain a Bill in '07.

What's Next for Buffalo?
At this point, no one is quite sure how to answer that question. As of this morning, there were no reported visits to One Bills Drive from any potential free agents. If anything comes up, it'll be here this evening. My guess is that the team is working on re-signing CB Kiwaukee Thomas, and hope to hear some news on that front in the next day or two.
