Reyes Released; Brown Visit Wednesday

Four days after signing three offensive linemen to monster deals, the Bills on Tuesday parted ways with veteran guard Tutan Reyes. The move comes as no surprise - Reyes, after starting the first six games of the '06 season at left guard, was replaced by Mike Gandy and did not dress for the remaining 10 games of the year. With three second-year players and three new free agents on the roster, it was highly unlikely that Reyes was going to earn a roster spot next year.

Also, an update on Dominic Rhodes: weather conditions prevented his flight from arriving on time, but Rhodes arrived in Orchard Park this afternoon and spent the afternoon touring the facilities at One Bills Drive. No word on a potential contract offer or other visits for Rhodes; if I hear anything, I'll post it up ASAP.

Brown to Visit; McGahee to Baltimore?

On Wednesday, the Bills will host another free agent runner when Tennessee's Chris Brown (above, right) visits One Bills Drive. The oft-injured Brown has struggled to stay healthy in recent years, but when he has played he has been among the most explosive runners in the game. He has received interest from several teams, including Philadelphia, Baltimore and Detroit.

The thought process here is that Brown would excel in a two-back system where he would not have the pressure of a full rushing load. My theory is that the Bills are looking to sign either Rhodes or Brown (or even both, although that is very unlikely) to put into a two-back scheme. Ideally, the team would lock down one of the two runners and draft a rookie to pair with him in the backfield. Rhodes does not appear to have a deal immiment; we'll see if that holds true for Brown as well tomorrow.

Interestingly, the Baltimore Sun has noticed the focus on running backs at One Bills Drive. Reports indicate that talks between the Ravens and Bills about a potential trade for Willis McGahee are heating up. The Ravens are still looking for a running back after the release of Jamal Lewis; Lewis is still a candidate to re-sign with the team. If a trade happens between these two teams, it will heighten the need for a runner in Buffalo. The Sun sees the two visits by Rhodes and Brown as a precursor to a deal. Stay tuned...
